Job Description

We’re right in the thick of our agile journey and as Scrum Master you’ll be leading that charge.

You’ll motivate and coach our talented, self-managing teams to create products that our customers love. You’re always two steps ahead, spotting blockers and making the light-touch interventions that raise everyone’s game.

About us

With over 16,000 people worldwide, we make a huge investment in everyone, offering great career development opportunities. Our people are at the heart of everything we do and we offer a fast-paced environment where we have fun, celebrate success and give you all the tools you’ll need to be your best self. It’s not just our colleagues we look after – we’ve got a responsibility to our customers too and we work hard on our ambition that nobody is harmed by gambling.

Your role in the team

Our Trading team work on backend betting systems that span our international customer base from Australia to Vegas and beyond. We code the platform which William Hill’s odds traders use to update the bet prices on live events. And there are 464 of these every single second. Here, you can use your expertise to build, guide and mentor our team and wider organisation on how to use Agile/Scrum practices and values to delight customers.

We’d like you to upskill our team on self-organising to fill in the intentional gaps left in the Agile/Scrum frameworks. Assessing the Scrum maturity of the team, you can organise and coach them to higher levels of maturity at a sustainable and comfortable pace. You’ll remove impediments and blockers and guide the team to do the same.

Skills needed

We'd like you to bring us experience of playing the Scrum Master role in an Agile software development team that has diligently applied Scrum principles, practices, and theory. You’re adept at servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency.

You know how to deal with intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (Burndown technologies, Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc.) Other things in your locker…XP, Kanban, Crystal, FDD, User Stories, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games  (to name but a few.)

We will also consider applications from people at the early stages of their journey within Scrum, who are looking to further their career with a market leading, global business.

What we offer

We have a great office space in a vibrant part of Leeds City Centre – right in the middle of the creative heart of the UK. Leeds itself is a buzzy, busy place to work and live - a hub for digital and gaming companies with an active tech community. On top of a good salary and package, our benefits include pension, healthcare, bonus opportunities – and a cycle to work scheme (ideal for burning off all the pizza we eat.)

William Hill in Leeds

Right in the middle of the creative heart of the UK sit both of our Leeds offices. Leeds itself is a buzzy, busy place to work and live. A hub for tech, digital and gaming companies – there’s also five universities right on our doorstep. And away from work, we’re in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales and of course have got a competitive sports scene with Leeds United and Yorkshire Cricket and Rugby just up the road in Headingly.
