Engineering without boundaries.
Here at William Hill we want our Systems Engineers to be able to take control, so we work to the principle, “if you can do it, crack on and do it.” If you love the flash of a command line prompt and take great pride in connecting all the jigsaw pieces of an IT service, we think you’ll fit in well here. We’re looking for the type of Engineer who’s enthusiastic about automating everything. You can quickly diagnose and resolve connectivity problems, you can spot why a server is behaving badly in a heartbeat, and you can collaborate with developers to resolve code vs infrastructure conflicts.
With over 16,000 people worldwide, we make a huge investment in everyone, offering great career development opportunities. Our people are at the heart of everything we do and we offer a fast-paced environment where we have fun, celebrate success and give you all the tools you’ll need to be your best self. It’s not just our colleagues we look after – we’ve got a responsibility to our customers too and we work hard on our ambition that nobody is harmed by gambling.
Your role in the team
All this variety means that no two days are the same. You’ll deliver high quality environments in line with architectural standards and project delivery requirements. This includes making sure our infrastructure and applications are running smoothly and any errors are fixed. Working closely with support teams and hardware suppliers you’ll deliver high quality environments taking ownership of work and seeing it through to completion. You’ll identify inefficiencies and where necessary implement changes to fix the end to end deployment process. You’ll adapt positively and quickly to new technologies and processes and analyse running systems in search of potential issues. You will engage with in Core Information security principles contributing to PCI-DSS compliance and active protection of William Hills infrastructure. You’ll aid the support teams and end users to ‘go the extra mile’. You’ll have a flexible attitude to creating solutions and perform under pressure. William Hill has a commitment to quality and you’ll adopt a thorough approach to your role.
We need you to have a hands on technical experience in Linux ideally with strong knowledge of Redhat. Some knowledge of Terraform and Puppet, and a strong knowledge of Networking (DNS, Load Balancing, Firewalls and routing) and HTTP protocols would be beneficial too.
You’ll have a background in packaging and deployment of applications. E.g Java, PHP using Version Control Systems (GIT) and Continuous Integration tools (Jenkins). Knowledge of scripting languages (Bash preferably) and AWS would be an asset. You’ll have previous experience of projects and service delivery processes, development, test methodologies and working to change and release management practices. You’ll be customer focused and understand the importance of key relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
We work in a Devops culture and are adopting Agile methodologies too. It would be great if you’re familiar with these ways of working and can share your expertise.
What we offer
We’ll welcome you on board with 25 days holiday (not to mention 8 bank holidays and an extra day for your birthday), a rewarding bonus scheme, an attractive pension package, healthy gym discounts and a staff benefits scheme. Plus, our season ticket loan and handy Metro Card loan will save you money getting to work and getting around town. William Hill in Leeds
Right in the middle of the creative heart of the UK sit both of our Leeds offices. Leeds itself is a buzzy, busy place to work and live. A hub for tech, digital and gaming companies – there’s also five universities right on our doorstep. And away from work, we’re in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales and of course have got a competitive sports scene with Leeds United and Yorkshire Cricket and Rugby just up the road in Headingley.
