Cantillon new ITM chairman

DERMOT CANTILLON has been appointed chairman of IrishT horoughbred Marketing. Cantillon, who takes over from John Oxx, is an established breeder. He has bred and raised a number of top-class performers at his Tinnakill House Stud in County Laois, including Group 1 winners Alexander Goldrun, Red Evie and Casamento. “ITM has been a leader for a generation,” said Cantillon (pictured). “My goal is to maintain Ireland’s position in the market as the place to come and buy horses. “It’s an area I’m very interested in and the Irish thoroughbred is something I'm very proud of.” Cantillon, a former chairman of t he Irish Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association, aims to improve onthe foundations set by former ITM chairmen. “You always have to look at how to improve,” he said. “Matt Mitchell was the first ITM chief executive and at thetime it was very innovative. Michael O’Hagan gave I TM great recognition worldwide. “A number of countries have mimicked the idea since and may be improved on what we do, so there is always room to do things better and generate new ideas to attract people to come to buy Irish horses.”
