16 September 2014

SIMON IP has been elected as the new chairman of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, succeeding Brian Stevenson who has retired from the board after 15 years.

Ip, a solicitor until he retired from legal practice in 2004, has been a member of the HKJC since 1973 and was elected to the board of stewards in 1999. He has been involved in the ownership of 28 horses in Hong Kong since 1990.

He paid warm tribute to his predecessor, who had been chairman for four years.

Ip said: "Brian Stevenson has overseen a period of tremendous growth and development for the Jockey Club on both the sporting and charitable fronts."

He added: "We shall continue to achieve excellence in our operations and to elevate still further Hong Kong's high standing in world racing."
