LADBROKES oddsmaker John Jones has taken early retirement

18 October 2011

LADBROKES  oddsmaker John Jones has taken early retirement after 43 years’ unbroken service with the firm, during which time he became known as ‘Mr Football’, writes Jim Cremin.
Former colleague John O’Connor, now Racing Post’s business development manager, said: “John’s a keen Arsenal fan and a lover of jump racing. He was a key player in the development of football turnover, and was feared and loved to equal degree throughout the company!
“He was a tough taskmaster who took some major positions. The one I remember  best  was the FA  Cup semi-final between Crystal Palace and Liverpool. Ladbrokes went top price Liverpool and held it despite a flood of serious money. Palace won 4-3 in extra-time.”
