13 February 2014

Product expert Marc Thomas has joined SIS as the company steps up its push into the digital world.

Thomas, formerly of William Hill and Sportingbet, becomes Head of Product with responsibility for overseeing the development and marketing of new services and solutions for online bookmakers.

Thomas, 39, is well known in the industry and arrives at SIS with more than 20 years’ experience in gambling and betting, with the last 14 spent launching, managing and developing online products and services.

He said: "My aim is to take SIS’ core competences and expand our product range, profile and customers. There are hundreds of operators out there who would be interested both in our existing services and the new data and streaming products we can develop in both our traditional core sports, as well as new and exciting content from around the world.

"There are clearly lots of passionate, knowledgeable people here and much of what we do is fantastic. It’s definitely not a case of starting again from scratch for the digital market, as we have the core skills to make inroads into it. We are the market leader in the retail sector and we now want to build on these foundations to create a market-leading product suite for digital."

Thomas joins as SIS steps up its strategy to broaden its business with several new initiatives, many of them online.

Richard Ames, Interim Managing Director, Commerce and Operations, SIS Betting, said: "We’re thrilled to have someone of Marc’s experience and know-how on board, and he joins us at an exciting time in the company’s development."

Wrexham-born Thomas started his career with Hills in their telephone betting department while he was still at Leeds University. He joined Hills full-time and was part of their team who took their first steps in digital bookmaking in 1999, working with now CEO Ralph Topping amongst others.

He spent 12 years at Hills, working in a variety of roles, including Operations Manager, Product Manager and Business Development Manager, before moving to Betfair where he was responsible for revamping their football sportsbook.

After spells developing a football business and working at 888, Thomas had five years at Sportingbet where, as Head of Product Development, he was instrumental in many of the company’s launches and enhancements, including sportsbook, casino and poker, and he played a key role in developing new mobile products as well as new businesses in Brazil, Germany, Denmark and Russia.

Recently Thomas has been working with multi-media conglomerate IMG, but he jumped at the chance to join SIS when he learned of their development plans.

"I was sold on the vision at SIS and what their aim is," said Thomas. "We definitely have the expertise and the people here to make some big strides."
