New CEO of Racing Victoria announced

06 August 2012

THE Board of Racing Victoria (RV) on Thursday announced that Bernard Saundry will succeed Rob Hines as chief executive officer (CEO), when Hines steps down later this year.

Saundry, 50, is an experienced sports administrator with over 30 years experience in the racing industry. His former roles include CEO of Thoroughvision (TVN), Harness Racing Victoria and the Western Bulldogs Football Club. His current position is chief operating officer at RV.

Commenting on the appointment, RV Chairman Michael Duffy said: "After a search that included domestic and international applicants, the board concluded that the best candidate was already in the business.

"The process has taken four months to complete with interviews and presentations by the shortlisted candidates culminating in the recommendation to appoint Bernard."

Duffy added: "The board would like to take this opportunity to thank Rob Hines for his contribution to racing in Victoria and in particular acknowledge the pivotal role he played in negotiating the terms of the industry's new joint venture with TABCORP."

Hines advised the RV board in 2011 that he would not be renewing his contract beyond November 2012. Saundry's appointment will start on December 1.
