O'Reilly joins Coral to head online division

08 August 2011

GALA CORAL have completed their senior management restructure by recruiting former Ladbrokes director John O’Reilly as head of their online betting and gaming operation.

He began work on Friday as managing director of Coral Interactive, reporting to Andy Hornby, the one-time Asda, HSBC and Alliance Boots boss who became chief executive of the Coral bookmaking division a fortnight ago.

O’Reilly left Ladbrokes in November 2010, following a 19-year career in which he headed the online division, became a board director, and was also in charge of the telephone, high-roller and Spanish businesses, as well as running the core trading and marketing functions.

Hornby said on Friday: “We are delighted to welcome John on board. His e-gaming track record and considerable bookmaking experience will make him a huge asset for Coral as we develop the Interactive business over the coming months and years.”

O’Reilly added: “I’m itching to get back into the betting industry and couldn't have a more exciting prospect than developing Coral's online business.

“Coral has a fantastic shop estate and a terrific brand, but it has yet to punch its weight in the online space and there is a huge appetite in the company to do just that. This challenge is right up my street."
