Rank Group appoint Needham as director

RANK GROUP, owner of online bookmaker Blue Square, has appointed 'strategic thinker' and former government minister Sir Richard Needham as an independent non-executive director with effect from May 1.

Sir Richard, the Earl of Kilmorey, left a distinguished career in politics in 1997 having become Britain's longest-serving minister in Northern Ireland.

In the private sector since, he has been a director of several public and private companies including Biocompatibles International plc, The Heart Hospital Limited and Dyson Limited, where he was a director for over 16 years.

He is a non-executive director of Avon Rubber, a non-executive director of Lonrho Plc and non-executive chairman of Vane Minerals plc. He is also chairman of political consultancy Tetra Strategy.

Ian Burke, Rank's chairman and chief executive, said: "We are delighted to welcome Sir Richard to the board of Rank.
