Shadwell have appointed James O'Donnell

06 May 2016

Shadwell have appointed James O'Donnell as assistant stud director of their UK operation.

O'Donnell replaces Johnnie Peter Hoblyn, who is leaving Shadwell after 16 years as stud manager to set up his own bloodstock consultancy business, and will be responsible for the day-to-day management of Shadwell's five studs as well as assisting stud director Richard Lancaster in the overall management of Shadwell UK.

O'Donnell previously spent seven years at Juddmonte, where he has held the position of nominations manager for the last four years. He has also gained experience with Highclere Stud and the Royal Studs in Britain, and with Arrowfield Stud and Swettenham Stud in Australia.

O'Donnell said: "I'm honoured and excited to be joining Shadwell. Muhaarar and Mukhadram are recent testament to their success and are two very exciting additions to the stallion roster.

"With their current horses in training in such good form, competing and winning at the highest level, there will no doubt be more recruits in the near future.

"In my current role I've been fortunate enough to get to know some of Shadwell's top-flight mares and it will be a privilege to be able to have direct involvement with their outstanding bloodstock.

"Working for Juddmonte has been an amazing chapter in my life and I would like to thank them for the opportunities they have given me. I'm now looking forward to working with and getting to know the team and the horses at Shadwell and being part of their continued success."

Lancaster added: "We're very pleased to welcome James to the team. He brings with him a wealth of experience which will be an invaluable contribution to the continuing development of our international operation."
