Spence quits Newbury post

Former chairman Christopher Spence yesterday stepped down from the board at Newbury at the track’s annual meeting after a near 16-year tenure. First appointed as a director in 1994,Spence resigned in 1998 to become senior steward of the Jockey Club but was reappointed as a director of Newbury in 2003. He was chairman for a year until June 2011. 

As expected, Channel 4 Racing presenter Jim McGrath has joined the board.Newbury chairman Dominic Burke said 2015 had started well, with overall race day attendances up nine per cent against the same period last year. Newbury’s conference and events business has produced like-for-like revenue growth of 17 per cent.
