Thorpe new chairman at Arena Racing Company

10 April 2014

DAVID THORPE is the new non-executive chairman at the Arena Racing Company filling the void left by the sudden resignation of Lord Howard in December.

Thorpe begins his new role with immediate effect and described himself as being "very pleased" at taking the position.

Lord Howard quit as chairman at Arc in late December after a disagreement with the Reuben brothers, owners of the racecourse group, over a matter unrelated to the company.

Thorpe, who owns Bobble Barn Farm in Gloucestershire, was chairman of the Racecourse Association from 2004-2009 and was also the former chairman of Arena Leisure from May 2010 until it was sold to Aldersgate Investments in March 2012.

Thorpe said: "I am very pleased to be joining the Arc team. As a lifelong racing fan I am passionate about racing and I hope to be able to contribute to Arc and British racing's future success."

Tony Kelly, managing director of Arc, added: "We are delighted David has agreed to become Arc's new chairman and we look forward to working with him."
