Tim Darby returns to the fold with Epsom move

22 November 2011

FORMER BHB and United Racecourses marketing executive Tim Darby is back in racing after a ten-year break - and back at Epsom, where he has been appointed marketing manager.

Darby spent 18 months with the same title at the BHB and was responsible for setting up jockeys' sponsorship as well as the authority's website, before he moved to a similar role at URL, the self-contained unit within Racecourse Holdings Trust that included Epsom in January 1999.

He left racing in August 2001 to become chief executive of the Professional Darts Corporation, where he turned round the loss-making organisation's finances and was responsible for introducing new televised tournaments and major sponsors.

Since January 2008 Darby has acted as a consultant to a number of business enterprises in Devon, but the lure of racing finally proved too strong.

"I spotted an ad for a job at an ‘iconic sporting venue in Surrey' and discovered it was for Epsom," he said.

"I hadn't seen the new grandstand buildings before, but as soon as I walked on to the course for the interview and looked at the facilities and great views all around, I knew it was where I wanted to be."
