Waterhouse to head William Hill Australia

22 July 2014

TOM WATERHOUSE has been named by William Hill as the new chief executive of their Australian wing which includes Sportingbet, Centrebet and Waterhouse's eponymous operation.

The son of legendary trainer Gai Waterhouse takes over from James Henderson - himself recently announced as the successor to Ralph Topping as William Hill chief executive - who took over as acting CEO when Michael Sullivan left the company.

Waterhouse has been a controversial figure in Australia with his television appearances during rugby league matches leading to a backlash against bookmaker advertising and him being accused of "acting irresponsibly" by Sullivan.

That was before William Hill acquired in August 2013 for A$35m (£20.5m) plus an "earn-out" which Hills have settled early for A$5m (£2.8m) in cash.
