Weil was appointed to the Sportech board in 2010. He was chairman of Scientific Games Corporation from 1991 to 2013 which held a 19.99 per cent stake in Sportech until selling its entire shareholding in January.

The company had held the shares for four years following Sportech's acquisition of its pari-mutuel subsidiary Scientific Games Racing (now Sportech Racing).

Sportech chairman Roger Withers said: "Lorne has been an important contributor to the board and, as a leading figure over many years in the gaming and technology industries in the United States, we look forward to his continued involvement as a consultant."
